Why We Love This Sour Cream Dip Recipe

Not only is this sour cream dip super easy to make, everyone is going to be asking you for the recipe. For us, it’s a party staple. If we’re having people over for any reason, or just sitting down to watch a game, this dip is making an appearance.

  • Easy To Make: Less than 5 minutes is all you need to make this sour cream dip. However, it does taste better if you let it chill for at least an hour.
  • Addicting Flavor: We’re using our All Purpose Seasoning in this dip and it gives it a delicious, zesty flavor.
  • Make Ahead: Make this dip ahead of time and have it ready to serve when your guests arrive – the flavor gets even better!

Recipe Ingredients

Just 5 ingredients (plus salt) is all you need to make this dip! Head to the recipe card at the end of the post for amounts needed.

ingredients for making sour cream dip
  • Sour Cream: For this recipe, we do like full fat (regular) sour cream. Light or reduced fat can be substituted, or even Greek yogurt for added protein.
  • Mayonnaise: Again, we like full fat mayo, but you can use reduced fat as well.
  • Chives: Fresh chives add a mild onion-like flavor to this dip.
  • All Purpose Seasoning: Our favorite seasoning blend that we use for so many recipes like pulled pork or on french fries.
  • Dried Parsley: You can also swap out fresh parsley.
  • Salt: Use kosher salt for the best flavor.

How To Make

Just add the ingredients to a bowl and mix. This sour cream dip does taste better after its been refrigerated for at least an hour, but sometimes we start dipping right away!

  • Gather Ingredients: Add the sour cream, mayonnaise, all purpose seasoning, chives and dried parsley to a bowl.
  • Whisk and Refrigerate: Whisk together until blended well, cover and refrigerate for at least an hour before serving.

Ideas For Dipping

Our favorite dippers for this dip are potato chips and pretzels. But vegetables like carrots, celery or broccoli are also delicious! Go outside the box and try some radishes or snow peas to make a beautiful vegetable platter.

In addition to serving this as a dip, it can also be used as a spread on sandwiches. Try it on a turkey or roast chicken sandwich. And one last idea…our son loves using this as a dip for pizza!

Variations

There’s a ton of different ways that you can flavor this dip, besides our recipe here. You can try using our homemade Fajita Seasoning, too. Or switch directions and add a couple of tablespoons of Ranch seasoning instead of the all purpose seasoning.

Instead of sour cream you can use Greek yogurt for more protein and less calories. The flavor will be more tangy, but also very tasty. Try using other fresh or dried herbs like dill or even cilantro for a Tex-Mex feel.
