Scale

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3/4 cup diced onion
  • 3/4 cup diced green pepper
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/21 teaspoon kosher salt (start with 1/2 and then add more if needed)
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Add the olive oil to a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion and green pepper, stir and cook for 4-5 minutes until softened. Add the garlic and stir.
  2. Push the vegetables to the side and add the ground beef to the skillet. Crumble and cook the beef until no pink remains and then drain the grease from the pan. Add the tomato paste, chili powder, paprika, salt and cayenne pepper to the skillet. Stir to combine with the ground beef and vegetables.
  3. Add the beef broth, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce and brown sugar to the pan. Stir and bring to a simmer. Simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until sauce has reduced and thickened.
