A Light Bourbon Cocktail Recipe

It’a not that often that you find a drink like this one that’s party worthy for multiple occasions. Like I said, you could shake these up for cocktail hour or brunch – or really any time of the day that you think you need to make yourself a drink.

I seem to really like the flavor of grapefruit these days – am I getting old? Why do I feel like old people always eat grapefruit? But I’ve used it in a couple of other cocktail recipes like this Nevada Grapefruit Martini and this Light and Calm rum drink…so I guess I’m a fan.

And yes, I’m sure it’s not an old people thing…I guess for me it’s just something I’ve never eaten when I was younger and now that I’m in my mid 40’s it seems like a great idea for breakfast.

Or cocktails.

How To Make A Bourbon Grapefruit Sidecar

Not only does this Bourbon Grapefruit Sidecar taste amazing but it looks just as good too. The bright color of the grapefruit juice and the sugared rim mixed with grapefruit zest are good enough all on their own.

This Bourbon Grapefruit Sidecar is perfect for happy hour or brunch!

But then we’re going to shake this grapefruit juice up with bourbon and orange liquor to really make this sidecar a drink you’re going to want to drink. And if you are making these Bourbon Grapefruit Sidecar for a party or you’re having friends over for brunch – you can make this whole drink up ahead of time.

Rim all the glasses and mix the drink together in a large pitcher, then just shake up and pour as needed. That is one of the keys to a good cocktail if you ask me, shaken like crazy so there’s pieces of ice going all through the drink, keeping it cold sip after sip.

This Bourbon Grapefruit Sidecar has just the right amount of tangy grapefruit flavor!

Another key to a great cocktail is garnish. This garnish looks great on the glass but also gives the drink some sweetness as you sip so it balances out the tart flavor of the grapefruit juice.

Wow. This one is a keeper. I’ll try it with cask strength bourbon next time…plenty sweet on its own…delicious. I served it in a rocks glass without the rim…although a brown sugar/coarse salt rim would be mad delicious here…
